Butterfly's v Windsor Whirlwinds
It was a slow start for us in this match and lots of silly errors meant we struggled to feed the ball into our shooting circle so did not have many opportunities at goal. The score at the end of the 1st quarter was 6 - 2 to the opposition and we had some work to do to catch up.
A quick rejig of positions and the 2nd quarter started. This quarter was much better with some great movement and timing of the passes to enable us to draw 4 all and not let Windsor extend their lead anymore.
At half - time we were still the 4 goals behind with the score being 10 -6, we started with Lucy T & Alex in defense, Josie, Lois & Neve in mid-court & Isla & Evie in shooting for the 3rd quarter. The girls were all told we had to fight for every loose ball and put the pressure on every pass to try and bridge the gap.
The 3rd quarter started and 3 passes was all it took to score our first goal of this quarter. Then some excellent defending from the mid court & defense meant we had turned over Windsor's centre and successfully passed the ball to our shooters to convert the goal. This momentum kept up for the whole 10 minutes and we finished winning the 3rd quarter 6 - 3, meaning Windsor now only had a 1 goal lead.
For the final quarter Jasmine went back on as GS and Ciara went on as WD and all the girls knew we had to keep the momentum from the 3rd quarter going and not waste the excellent position we had gained in the quarter before.
Again it was our centre pass to start the quarter and with some lovely quick thinking by the mid court and some dynamic movement from our shooters we had scored and brought the score level. Lucy & Alex kept the pressure on the Windsor shooters denying them the goal and for the first time in the match the Butterfly's were ahead. As the quarter went on all the girls on court worked well supporting each other and retaining possession of the ball to move it safely to our shooters who fought well to secure the goals.
Some very tired faces at the end of the 40 minutes but they were all rewarded with the news that they had worked so hard and won that final quarter 5 - 3, to secure the overall score of 17 - 15 to the Butterflys.
A great team effort from all 9 girls who really fought hard in this match to turn it around and secure their 3rd win in this league out of 4 matches.
