Butterfly's v Allsorts
By Patricia Balcombe
Tonight's match was always going to result in a Surrey Heath win but to which team?? They have played each other twice before last season and each team won once so it was going to be a very close match as they were so evenly matched.
Once again we started slow, seems to be a recurring theme in the Charters league, and before we knew it the first 10 minutes had gone by and the Allsort's were just in the lead by 2 goals showing how close a game this was going to be. The score was very low at the end of the first quarter 5- 3 to the Allsort's due to the pressure on court from all players with lots of turnovers happening by both sides.
The 2nd quarter was very similar with both teams scoring off each others centre passes and going into the half-time break the difference was still 2 goals with Allsort's leading 11 -9.
The Butterfly's seem to enjoy the 2nd half of their matches as they really come alive at that stage and put the added pressure over each pass and fight for every possession. There was some great defending by everyone causing the Allsort's to make silly mistakes and some quick passing to deliver the ball safely to our shooters resulting in some great goals. End of the 3rd quarter saw the Butterfly's draw level at 12 all, winning that quarter 3-1.
The final quarter was all about who could keep their head as everyone was starting to panic with the score being level. Some great interceptions in defense and pressure on the shots meant the Allsort's were unable to score any goals in the final quarter and the Butterfly's finally went into the lead for the first time in the match. Only 2 goals were scored in total in the final quarter so a lot of movement was seen by all players on court as they fought to keep possession and safely deliver the ball to the shooters in a comfortable position to shoot.
A great effort by all 8 players but please don't leave it so late in future as very nerve wrecking for all of the spectators. Well done to everyone and the Butterfly's have now moved up into 3rd place in the league, so fantastic work by all.
Player of match (voted by opposition): Isla Milne
