Butterfly's v Wokingham Emeralds

Always smiling

The first quarter was a slow start for both the teams with lots of turnovers during the 12 minutes but unfortunately the oppositions shooters were more accurate then us and took a lead of 9 - 0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Wokingham Emeralds's shooters continue to impress with accurate goals no matter how much pressure our defenders were exerting with their tight marking and pressure over the ball. The mid court players continued to work hard trying to find space when on the attack but unfortunately too many turnovers happened with some experienced defenders denying us the space and making it difficult to feed our shooters. The mid court continued to persevere and finally we were rewarded with our first goal of the match which was shortly followed with another one, after some great movement and quick passes from our centre pass. At half-time Wokingham had a comfortable lead of 23 -2.
The girls all kept working hard and the scoreline does not reflect how much effort and possession we actually had, just unfortunately the goals were not going in when we did get the ball to our shooters, and Wokingham were able to get the rebounds and deliver the ball to their shooters who were not missing. The third quarter unfortunately saw us not scoring any goals but we had slowed down the Wokingham attack as they didn't score as many goals as the previous quarter.
Going into the final quarter the score was 35 - 2 to Wokingham but it was fantastic to see how all the players on court did not let this effect them and still put the pressure on every pass and fight for each ball. Some great moments of play saw this quarter actually being our best in the game with us scoring 4 goals due to some great passing and timing of movement to receive the ball. All the girls worked so hard during the match and never stopped giving 100%.
The final score of 53 - 6 does not reflect all the hard work on court all the girls gave and their determination to keep trying right till the final whistle.

We are still chasing our first win in this league but all the hard work and tough opposition is helping everyone improve which is seen in some of the other leagues the girls play in.

Well done to everyone today for their determination and fight to never stop. A special mention to Lucy Waite for playing on her birthday and your cupcakes looked amazing :) ....Happy Birthday Lucy.

Player of match (voted by opposition): Evie Faulkner
