A Slow start but finished strong.

Another hard match this morning for the Butterfly's and the goal was to improve on the score when we had previously played Surrey Jets and lost 66-5.

While both teams settled in to the match it was pretty level with half-way of the first quarter the scores being 4 all but not enough options on our centre pass and the pressure from all the Surrey Jet players meant no more goals were scored in this quarter and Surrey Jets quickly went into an 8 goal lead at the end of the first quarter 4 -12.
After a quick change in mid court to try and help the centre passes we started the 2nd quarter with the instruction to move ball side and constantly be offering and looking down the court. Unfortunately too many square passes meant we struggled to get the ball into our "D" and the opposition were quick to utilize our errors and score off them, the score at half-time was 24 - 7 to Surrey Jets with the Butterflys only managing 3 goals in this quarter.
The 3rd quarter was very similar to the 2nd quarter with the Butterfly's still struggling to get the ball to their shooters in the "D" but some great pressure from Vanessa, Josie & Lucy in defense meant we slowed down the Jets impressive score rate. At the end of the quarter Surrey Jets had established a comfortable lead of 35 - 10.
Another change in mid court for the final quarter to try and build on the previous quarter and help move the ball down the court. This was our best quarter in the match with the team all working together to try and keep possession of the ball and deliver it safely to the shooters. Again some fantastic work from the defense, Antonella, Josie and Lucy meant the opposition were not scoring as quickly as the previous quarters. Josie, playing out of position in GD, made 3 turnovers on the Jets centre pass to slow their momentum and give the Butterfly's extra opportunities. Ela & Emilia in mid court worked tirelessly to provide options and were rewarded with delivering the ball safely to our shooters, Eleanor & Isla.
The final quarter saw Surrey Jets win it 9 - 5 to win the match overall 43 - 15 but this was a massive improvement from when we played them the first time.

Really well done to all 8 players who kept going until the final whistle, trying different options which finally paid off in the final quarter.

Player of match (voted by opposition): Antonella Gemmoni

Thank you to Hannah White for umpiring & Isla Milne for scoring at 10am.
